AIT and American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) Strengthen Ties with New Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)

15 November 2023: Aiming to foster international collaboration in education, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) have inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) reaffirming their commitment to academic cooperation.

The signing ceremony marked a pivotal moment in the longstanding partnership between the two institutions. AIT President, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, emphasized the historical ties between AIT and AIUB, expressing enthusiasm for supporting AIUB’s capacity-building program.

The key objectives outlined in the MoA include defining roles, responsibilities, and coordination mechanisms for AIUB faculty and staff to pursue doctoral degree programs at AIT. The agreement also aims to bolster the implementation of AIUB’s capacity-building plan.

Under the terms of the agreement, collaborative efforts will focus on the Capacity Building Partnership Program, culminating in the award of Doctoral Degrees in various fields for AIUB faculty and staff. The specific degrees will be conferred in accordance with AIT’s rules and regulations.

Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, AIUB Vice Chancellor, expressed optimism about the future collaboration, stating, “AIUB is looking forward to the provisions of the MoA. We do expect some of our junior teachers and students to join AIT. I hope that this will be a lasting relationship.”

The signing ceremony was also attended by Prof. Abdul P. Salam, Dean of the School of Environment, Resources, and Development (SERD); Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Mr. Shawn Kelly, Executive Director, Office of International and Public Affairs; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director, International Affairs; Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director, Public Affairs; Mr. M. Zia Islam, Special Assistant to the President for Marketing & Recruitment, and Ms. Indra Kumari, Senior Program Officer from the International Affairs.
